Singing Tesla Coil Presented by: KU HawkWorks, KU Physics and Engineering Student Organization

Watch and listen as electricity dances to popular music played through a connected laptop. The 8-foot tall singing Tesla Coil uses simple principles of electromagnetism to produce large arcs of electricity. See the exciting visuals and learn how the Tesla Coil works—this special exhibit is both fun and educational!

Jayhawk Motorsports SAE Race Car

Come catch the Jayhawk Motorsports Formula SAE race car in action! Founded in 1994 by a group of six KU mechanical engineers, Jayhawk Motorsports is one of the leading contenders in Formula SAE competitions. Learn about the vehicles built by these students, and see the race car go!

Located in Theatre Lawrence Parking Lot.

The Jayhawk Motorsports Baja team is a group of volunteer KU students that gets together to design, build, test and compete an off-road race car. Come see the Baja car in action and spend time with the team that built it.

Paper Rocket Launch and Nerdy Derby Race Cars – The Maker Studio from Science City at Union Station

Build a rocket and launch it with a compressed air rocket launcher! Make a pinewood derby car and race it down Science City’s Nerdy Derby race track!
Bring your own pinewood cars to race on the Nerdy Derby track, or make a car at Confabularryum with one of the available FREE car kits. We will have 300 free car kits to give away – 100 per hour at 9am, 11am and 1pm. Free kits are available one per child on a first come basis while they last. You are also welcome to purchase your own car kit and bring it with you to put together with the tools we provide. The kits we purchase are available on Amazon.com.
